Obscurely Terms of Service
Effective date: 27 August 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of Obscurely (the “Service”), a web-based document redaction service operated by SimSage (UK) Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 11936581, with its registered office at St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge CB4 0WS. (“Obscurely,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By creating an account, subscribing, or otherwise using the Service, you (“you” or “Customer”) agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Obscurely allows you to upload documents and apply automated and manual redaction to remove or obscure specified content before you share, publish, or store those documents elsewhere. We may add, change, or remove features from time to time.
2. Accounts
You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your login credentials confidential. Notify us promptly at info@simsage.ai if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.
3. Subscriptions and Billing
The Service is offered on a subscription basis. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your nominated credit card monthly in advance, on the same date each billing cycle, for the then-current subscription fee plus any applicable VAT, or equivalent goods and services tax in other geographies where required by relevant laws within those geographies.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you are currently in, and you will retain access to the Service until then.
No refunds. Fees are charged in advance and are non-refundable, including where you cancel, downgrade, or stop using the Service part way through a billing period. No credit or refund is given for partial months of service.
If a payment fails, we may retry the charge, suspend your access to the Service, and/or terminate your subscription if the amount owed is not paid within a reasonable period. We may change subscription pricing on notice to you; changes take effect from your next renewal.
4. Your Content and Data
You retain all rights, title, and interest in the documents and content you upload to the Service (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited licence to host, process, and display Your Content solely to provide the Service to you. The content is not retained by us once processing of the redacted copies is complete.
We treat Your Content as confidential and will not access, use, or share it except as needed to operate, secure, and support the Service, or as required by law. Our processing of personal data, including any personal data contained in Your Content, is described in our Secure Data Processing overview (version 1.0, 6 October 2026) and in SimSage (UK) Limited’s Privacy Policy, which form part of these Terms. The Secure Data Processing overview sets out specifically where the Service is hosted and how Your Content is held, protected and discarded.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to upload or process content you do not have the right to submit, to break the law, to infringe another person's rights, or to attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users' data. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section.
6. Redaction Accuracy — Please Read
The Service is a tool to assist you in redacting documents; it is not a guarantee that all sensitive, confidential, or personal information will be identified or removed. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying every redacted document before relying on it, publishing it, or sharing it with any third party. We are not liable for information that remains visible, recoverable, or improperly redacted in a document you have not independently checked and approved.
7. Intellectual Property
We and our licensors own all rights in the Service, including its software, design, and underlying technology. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of that intellectual property to you, except the limited right to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
8. Termination
You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time as described in Section 3. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we reasonably suspect misuse of the Service, or if required to do so by law. On termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately; Sections 3 (as to amounts already due), 4, 6, 7, 9, and 11 survive termination.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, express or implied, including any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose beyond what is described in these Terms.
10. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will give you reasonable notice (for example, by email or an in-product notice) before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, save that consumers resident elsewhere in the UK may also be entitled to bring proceedings in their local courts under mandatory local law.
13. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent to info@simsage.ai or by post to SimSage (UK) Limited at St Johns Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge CB4 0WS, United Kingdom.
